Writing

Throughout my 25-year career as a writer, I have published a book, 90 online articles with the former website Suite 101, and three in-print magazines. My writing focuses on historical events and people, travel writing, op-eds, and anything else that interests me.

In 2003, I attended Vermont College’s Adult Degree Program (ADP). The College is best known for its strong Master’s of Fine Arts program, so it was no surprise that students had to have a completed manuscript or at least three chapters of a manuscript to graduate from ADP with a Liberal Arts Degree. So, while studying and focusing on a degree in American History, the professors were hardcore about good writing.

As part of my graduate study in 2005, I wrote a piece based on the building of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., which I published on the former Suite 101 website. After seeing the article on the website,  the copyright administrator from the Educational Testing Service, Princeton, NJ, contacted me in 2011 and requested a license to print within ten years 380,000 copies of the article in their Advanced Placement Exam Booklet. In 2013, they asked for an additional license to print 200,000, expanding the expiration date for the permission to May 1, 2023.

I took a break in 2007 from working on my Master’s and returned in 2019, focusing on historic preservation. In December 2020, I graduated with a degree in Applied History with a concentration in Historic Preservation & Cultural Resource Management.
